The
Algarve - a haven for wildlife
If
bird-watching isn't a reason people visit the Algarve region
of Portugal, then it should be! As an unspoilt area with a wide
range of habitats and situated between the European mainland,
Africa and the Atlantic, it attracts birds from across many
species and native homelands.
We,
at Quinta Pintados, whilst not experts
on bird names or identification, really enjoy watching and listening
to the huge number of different birds that regularly inhabit
our estate . . . and would welcome ornithological guests to
help us tell one warbler from another, one type of wagtail from
others . . . and to share our appreciation of the winged guests
to our part of the Serra de Monchique.

We
know we have eagles, but are not sure which variety and our
orchards are host to many birds other than the blackbirds, robins,
sparrows and tits that we all recognise. We're fairly sure we've
heard woodpeckers in the surrounding forests and nightingales
close to the house . . . and as for the aerobatics displays
by the swallows . . . wonderful!
All
the species mentioned above have been seen or heard on our 2.5
hectare estate which guests are free to explore.
